Canton is the Lincoln County seat, but drive five minutes in any direction and you're on working farm ground. If you're farming or living on an acreage out here, the building need is usually practical: a machine shed that's been outgrown, hay and equipment sitting outside through winter, or a shop with room for a hoist. A building like that has to earn its keep. It needs a real foundation, a frame sized for snow load and prairie wind, and doors placed for how you actually move equipment in and out.

Door placement is the thing people most often wish they had changed, and it costs nothing to move on paper. Once the posts are set, the building has the openings it has. Clear height works the same way: what fits the equipment you own now and what fits whatever replaces it are different numbers, and only one of them is cheap to build for today.

Shops, sheds, and pole barns for working ground

Ag buildings around Canton do real work: machinery storage, a shop you can actually work in, hay and grain cover, or a general-purpose building on an acreage. We build post-frame pole barns and framed shop buildings sized to the job, from a yard shed up to a full machine shed, and we pour the concrete that goes with them, so the floor and the approach come from the same contractor as the frame. Drafting comes first, so you see the building on paper before you commit.

Permits, plans, and a schedule that respects the season

Whether your site sits inside Canton city limits or on rural Lincoln County ground changes who issues the permit, and it's not something you should have to sort out yourself. We handle the drafting and the permit application either way. The building season here is short, so sequencing matters: dirt work and footings need to happen before the ground freezes, and steel and framing can follow. We walk the site in person, talk through use and placement, and put the full scope in a written estimate before any work starts. Hols & Co holds a 5.0 rating across 19 Google reviews and an A rating with the BBB.

Highly recommend Hols & Co. if you are looking for someone to build your deck. The whole team was excellent to work with. They were professional, respectful and communicative. They were very efficient when they were on site and kept out property clean while they worked. Solid craftmanship and the finished product is exactly what we were envisioning. We would definitely hire this crew again for future projects.

The team was great. The quality of work is fantastic. I saw their ad on social media and took a chance and contacted them. So glad I did! Wanted my back deck replaced and they did a beautiful job. Even worked Saturday because the wood for the deck didn't show up on time. Looking forward to having them back for my next project!

Hols and Co. replaced our deck with a covered and screened in deck. We are extremely pleased with the workmanship and attention to detail they put into the deck. They were a pleasure to work with and would definitely recommend them for your home construction needs. Myron H.

FAQ

Fair questions, straight answers.

Do I need a permit to build a pole barn or machine shed near Canton?

It depends on where the site sits. Inside Canton city limits, the city reviews the project; on rural ground, it goes through Lincoln County, and since Canton is the county seat, those offices are right in town. Hols & Co prepares the drawings and handles the permit application either way, so the paperwork side is sorted before construction starts.

Can you build a storage shed on an older in-town lot in Canton?

Yes. Much of Canton's in-town housing stock is older, which usually means a tighter lot, existing structures, and setback rules to work around, so the shed gets sized and placed to fit what's actually there. It still gets a proper footing below the frost line, because freeze-thaw movement affects a town lot the same as ten acres. We walk the property first and put the scope in a written estimate.
