A lot of Sioux Falls homes come with a basement that was never finished. Most unfinished basements in the metro start as poured walls, a concrete slab, and exposed mechanicals. A full finish means framing and insulating the exterior walls, running electrical and any plumbing rough-ins, extending heat runs, hanging and finishing drywall, and putting down flooring that can live on a slab. If you want a legal bedroom down there, it needs an egress window big enough to exit through, which usually means cutting the foundation and setting a window well. In a freeze-thaw climate, we pay attention to moisture at the slab and rim joist before anything gets covered up.
